ICAN Pathway to ACCA

Career advancement and success is the goal for many professional accountants in Nigeria. Little wonder the quest for more knowledge about ACCA and ICAN has been on the rise. Interestingly, both ACCA and ICAN have the capacity to uplift your accounting career, but if you need more international recognition, it’s best to sit for ACCA. 

Bagging the ACCA qualification becomes easier if you’ve already sat for ICAN. As an ICAN associate, you are qualified for exemptions in the process of applying for ACCA.

ACCA Global provided an exemptions calculator on their website that enables all ICAN holders to know the specific papers to be exempted.

WHAT PAPERS ARE EXEMPTED FOR ICAN HOLDERS?

Through the use of the Exemption Calculator on ACCA website, the following papers were exempted for ICAN holders:

Knowledge Module:

• Accountant in Business (AB) – F1
•  Management Accounting (MA) – F2
• Financial Accounting (FA) – F3

Skills Module:

• Corporate and Business Law (LW) – F4
• Performance Management (PM) – F5
• Taxation (TX) – F6
• Financial Reporting (FR) – F7
• Audit and Assurance (AA) – F8
• Financial Management (FM) – F9

HOW MANY PAPERS WILL I SIT FOR?

If you have the ICAN certification, you will be required to sit for 4 papers only in order to bag your ACCA certification. These include 2 compulsory papers, and 2 optional ones.

Mandatory:

• Strategic Business Reporting
• Strategic Business Leader

Optional:

• Advanced Financial Management
• Advanced Performance Management
• Advanced Taxation (UK)
• Advanced Audit and Assurance (INT)
